Northern Ireland Screen’s Irish Language Broadcast Fund (ILBF) is delighted to announce its latest funding decisions for 2020. Funding was awarded across a wide genre of TV and online content with a total of 16 projects receiving funding.

The aims of the ILBF are to promote the production and broadcast of quality Irish language content for an audience in Northern Ireland and beyond and to help grow the Irish language production sector in Northern Ireland. Some of the funded projects in the first funding round of 2020 include:

TV Presenter and Swap Shop organiser, Caoimhe Ní Chathail is on a mission to get us thinking differently about our shopping habits in Swap Shop, a factual entertainment series from Waddell Media.

Máirseáileacha Míliteacha, a documentary by Dearcán Media will excavate the surprise collection of British military tunes in the Bunting collection in Belfast. Dearcán Media has also received funding for Ciorcóg Cómhrá a documentary that will look at what we need to do to protect the Irish bee population for the environment and for our collective future.

The company was also awarded funding for an international co-production with Cwmni Da in Wales, Mac TV in Scotland and Korea’s JTV. Báisteach (Rain Stories) will look at how this precious resource continues to shape lives in Ireland and across the world.

In Pet Nation, a factual entertainment series by Big Mountain Productions, we celebrate the wonderful world of pets, bringing animals and owners from around Ireland to meet a resident team of experts in a specially created Pet Hub that is part showcase arena, part clinic.

Daisy & Ollie a pre-school series encouraging young children to be curious and encourage the world around them will be produced by Zoogon Media for TG4.

Former Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, will go on a journey discovering the lost railway routes of Ireland while meeting local characters, historians and maybe a few celebrities along the way in Ireland’s Lost Railways which will be produced by Sonas Productions.

Crawford McCann’s Beidh Aonach Amárach returns for a third series and will go into the heart of rural communities where we will meet more people going for glory at Ireland’s country shows and fairs.

Aoife Ní Chaiside considers how the sport of camogie is flourishing and how an organisation established to protest exclusion by the GAA continues to thrive in Fiabhras na Fuinseoige, a production by DoubleBand Films.

All around the country over the past 10 years a new trend is taking hold – Men’s Sheds. It is not always clear what happens behind the doors of these groups, but this new series Ar Scath a Chéile from Macha Media will shine a light on what they get up to by following engaging characters with compelling stories as they work with their comrades to reach their goals.

Sruth will unearth the most exciting new musical talents currently breaking boundaries in traditional music in Ireland and Scotland and will be produced by Táin Media & Scotland’s Bees Nees.

Rua Media was awarded funding to produce a short form series focusing on mental health for NÓS.ie.
