In a world where the debate between good and evil rages on, just who is Hostage to the Devil?

New documentary explores the true story of Fr Malachi Martin – scholar, priest, writer, exorcist….

Causeway Pictures has released the new trailer for the fascinating upcoming indie documentary Hostage to the Devil. Over 5 years in production, director Marty Stalker has made a film which examines age old questions about the existence of the Devil and the debate over good VS evil, all through the life of a controversial Irish-born Jesuit priest, Fr Malachi Martin.

Using first person-interviews with paranormal royalty such as Lorraine Warren, Ralph Sarchie and John Zaffis, along with dramatic reconstructions, archival evidence and words straight from Martin, this spine-chilling documentary takes the audience on a journey through an extraordinary life; marked by battles against the Vatican, scandal, contention and most of all, a deep and all-encompassing belief in the theory and practice of exorcism.

The film explains in graphic detail the process and outcomes of such an ordeal, including the horrifying case study of a four year old girl, whom Fr Martin assessed as requiring exorcism– this was to be the last case he was involved in before he died in mysterious circumstances.

Marty Stalker spent years immersing himself in Fr Martin’s world: “On reflection, Malachi Martin’s words and warnings about the existence of Satan and the perilous future in which the world is heading towards ring out with special resonance today. After nearly four years of researching and absorbing myself into the writings of Malachi Martin, numerous questions inevitably remain unanswered about his past. Martin is an enigma to this day.”

Hostage to the Devil invites the audience to draw their own conclusions about Satan, exorcism and the man who described it all as “a titanic clash of wills that threatens the lives, the sanity, and even the souls of all attending”.

The film has received funding from the Northern Ireland Screen supported by Invest NI and Bord Scannán na hÉireann/ the Irish Film Board.
