Malojian’s lockdown gig to premiere at Strand Arts Centre

Date Posted: March 3, 2022

Malojian: Humm – Live at the Strand, a screening of a lockdown gig, will premiere at Strand Arts Centre on Thursday 10th March at 8:45pm.

Malojian was due to play at Strand Arts Centre in December 2020 with filmmaker Colm Laverty mixing live visuals from the Northern Ireland Screen’s Digital Film Archive. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions the gig couldn’t go ahead, and instead Smarts Agency filmed the gig in an empty theatre with the support of Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Northern Ireland Screen’s Digital Film Archive. The film features a guest appearance from Jason Lytle of Grandaddy.

After the film there will be a live Q&A hosted by Joe Lindsay chatting to the band, Colm Laverty, Francis Jones (Northern Ireland Screen’s Digital Film Archive) and Johanna Leech (Strand Arts Centre).

Francis Jones said: “This collaborative endeavour has been so special, the bringing together of Malojian’s music and the archive footage at the Strand to create a visual and musical spectacle.”

Johanna Leech said: “We loved working with Malojian and the archive over lockdown to create this beautiful film that will be available for future generations.”
