Nowhere Special selected for Venice Film Festival

Date Posted: July 28, 2020

The line-up of the 2020 Venice Film Festival has been announced. Northern Ireland Screen is delighted to see Nowhere Special, which filmed on location in Northern Ireland in 2019, feature in the Horizons section of the Festival. Venice, which runs from 2-12 September, will be one of the first major film festivals to take place physically following the Covid-19 outbreak.

Inspired by true events Nowhere Special is directed and produced by Uberto Pasolini (The Full Monty, Bel Ami, Palookaville) from his original screenplay with Belfast’s Chris Martin (Good Vibrations) also producing.

Nowhere Special features James Norton (Happy Valley, Mr. Jones, Little Women) as 35 year old window cleaner John, who has dedicated his life to bringing up his son, after the child’s mother left them soon after giving birth. When John is given only a few months to live, he attempts to find a new, perfect family for his three-year-old son, determined to shield him from the terrible reality of the situation. Young Ballymena actor Daniel Lamont plays John’s son.

Nowhere Special is a co-production between UK, Italy, Romania. The film is produced by Picomedia SRL, Nowhere Special Ltd., Avanpost/Digital Cube SRL, in association with Rai Cinema, with the support of Northern Ireland Screen and Eurimages. Beta Cinema has acquired worldwide sales rights.
