Popular ILBF show Croí Uladh le John Toal returns for second series

Date Posted: April 2, 2021

John Toal is back on our screens and on the road again for a second series of Irish Language Broadcast Fund show Croí Uladh le John Toal, starting Monday 12th April at 10pm on BBC Two Northern Ireland. The series is produced by Big Mountain Productions for BBC Gaeilge.

John sets off around Ulster in search of the stories and the characters that make this place so special. From a music lesson on the harp to fishing and singing for his supper, upcycling jewellery and re-creating the magic of Elvis, John goes to the heart of Ulster in the new series.

In the shadow of Errigal mountain John takes to the back roads of Donegal meeting the team behind Donegal Rally stalwart Gavin Kelly. John tests his skill as a co-driver and his nerve in the passenger seat as Gavin test-runs his car in the isolated splendour of Cashelnagor.

Dropping several gears John heads east to Co. Down to find out more about an unusual stone carving in Greyabbey – Seán na Gig. Unsure about the wisdom of handing over his DNA to a company to find out more about his ancestry, John meets scientist Stephen Carson in Queen’s University Belfast to get his opinion.

The West Belfast Coolers Running Club is all about encouragement and fun. John meets the cheerful and inspirational club members who persuade him to give it a go. John gets further advice and encouragement from Olympian, Mary Peters.
John also meets the impressive team at Assisi Animal Sanctuary who care for and rehome rescued animals. He talks to some of

the happy owners and meets their very special rescue dogs, including a little dog with a big heart, Henry Wee Wheels, who has become a local celebrity in his custom-made wheelchair.

John then takes a trip down memory lane as he travels back to Arranmore, where he learnt Irish as a teenager. John is treated to a musical performance from the Arranmore Pipe Band on the beach and meets some familiar faces.

Tá John Toal ar ais ar an scáileán agus ar ais ar an bhóthar don dara sraith do Croí Uladh le John Toal ag tosú Dé Luain an 12ú Aibreán ar a 10in ar BBC 2 Thuaisceart Éireann.

Sraith í atá léirithe ag Big Mountain Productions do BBC Gaeilge le tacaíocht ó Chiste Craoltóireachta Gaeilge Scáileán Thuaisceart Éireann.

Is iomaí rún nochtaithe agus is iomaí scéal inste ar a thuras thart ar an chúige gan trácht ar an cheol agus ar an chraic i gcuid de na háiteanna is deise in Uladh. Ó sheinm na cláirsí go hiascaireacht don dinnéar, ag athchúrsáil seodra agus ag déanamh ceiliúrtha ar spiorad Elvis, téann John go croí an scéil sa tsraith úr seo.

Ar bhóithre cúnga Dhún na nGall, déanann John a chairrín dearg a mhalartú do charr railí! Casann John leis an tiománaí railí Gavin Kelly agus baineann siad na bonnaí as faoi scáth na hEaragaile.

Soir go Co. an Dúin agus siar go dtí an cúigiú haois déag chun níos mó eolais a thabhairt chun solais faoin rógaire Seán na Gig sa Mhainistir Liath. Tá fonn ar John a chuid DNA a fhiosrú ach an bhfuil muid ag tabhairt ar shiúl barraíocht eolais fúinn féin? Faigheann sé comhairle ó Stephen Carson in Ollscoil na Banríona i mBéal Feirste.

Is fearr le John a bheith ag siúl ach tógann sé a chuid cosa inniu i gcuideachta chlub reathaíochta na West Belfast Coolers agus labhraíonn sé le baill spreagúla an chlub. Buaileann sé le Mary Peters ach níl sí chun a cuid rún reathaíochta a scaoileadh leis. Tá saol an mhadaidh bháin ag na madaidh san Assisi Sanctuary agus tugann John cuairt ar mhadadh ar leith a bhfuil cathaoir rothaí speisialta aige, Henry Wee Wheels, madadh beag ach madadh atá mór le rá sa cheantar!

Téann John ar bhóithrín na smaointe siar go laethanta a óige ar Oileán Árainn Mhóir, an áit inár fhoghlaim sé a chuid Gaeilge. Tá Banna Píob Árainn Mhór amuigh chun fáilte a chur roimhe!
