Cogadh faoi Cheilt – Scéal an IRB

Date Posted: September 24, 2019

Cogadh faoi Cheilt – Scéal an IRB (Hidden War – the story of the IRB), a story that is often ignored about a secret organisation that shaped the Irish state, airs on Wednesday 25th September at 9:30pm on TG4.

Cogadh faoi Cheilt – Scéal an IRB, produced by Dearcán Media, was supported by Northern Ireland Screen, through the Irish Language Broadcast Fund.

Without the work of the IRB in the previous decades it is arguable whether 1916 would have happened at all, and it is impossible to understand partition without taking into consideration the role of the IRB in the 1918-24 period.

Cogadh faoi Cheilt – Scéal an IRB offers a very new take on the division of Ireland and outlines the tantalising possibility of what the IRB hoped to achieve.

Thanks to the IRB’s policy of entryism the origins of The Land League, the GAA, Sinn Féin, The Irish Volunteers and The Gaelic League are bound up in the story of this secret organisation. IRB initiatives in land reform, cultural revivalism, military strategy and popular political protest inspired characters as diverse as Lenin and Gandhi and influenced the most progressive elements in Britain and the US – trade unions, Labour and left organisations and broadly democratic forces. IRB activities in Britain also led to the creation of the British Special Branch, the British secret service, prison reforms, unprecedented 2 land reforms in Ireland and Scotland, it sundered the most powerful Empire in the world, and inspired countless revolutionaries across the globe.

Cogadh faoi Cheilt – Scéal an IRB draws on contributions from the foremost authorities on the IRB, Fenianism, Irish Republicanism, The Irish Revolution, and nineteenth and twentieth century Gaelic Revival and Irish nationalist culture and literature.

Cogadh faoi Cheilt – Scéal an IRB starts on Wednesday 25th September at 9:30pm on TG4.

Cogadh faoi Cheilt – Scéal an IRB, insítear scéal a dtugtar neamhaird air go minic, faoi eagraíocht rúnda a mhúnlaigh stát na hÉireann. Beidh an clár faisnéise seo ar siúl Dé Céadaoin, 25ú Meán Fómhair ag 9.30i.n. ar TG4.

Is léiriú de chuid Dearcán Media é Cogadh Faoi Cheilt – Scéal an IRB do TG4 le maoiniú ón Chiste Craoltóireachta Gaeilge de chuid Scáileáin Thuaisceart Éireann.

Ach gan obair an IRB sna blianta roimhe sin, seans nach dtarlódh na heachtraí céanna ó 1912-1916 ar chor ar bith, agus ní féidir críochdheighilt a thuiscint gan smaoineamh faoi ról an IRB ó 1918-24.

Cuireann Cogadh Faoi Cheilt deighilt na hÉireann in iúl ar dhóigh nua agus déanann sé achoimre ar aidhmeanna an IRB.

Buíochas le polasaí an IRB faoi ‘entryism,’ tá Conradh na Talún, an CLG, Sinn Féin, Óglaigh na hÉireann agus Conradh na Gaeilge bainteach le scéal na heagraíochta seo. Spreag tionscaimh an IRB i leasú chóras na talún, athbheochanas cultúrtha, straitéis mhíleata agus agóid polaitíochta carachtair chomh éagsúil le Lenin agus Gandhi, agus bhí tionchar aici ar na gnéithe is forásaí sa Bhreatain agus sna Stáit Aontaithe – ceardchumainn, eagraíochtaí an lucht oibre agus ar an eite chlé, agus fórsaí daonlathacha. Mar gheall ar ghníomhaíochtaí an IRB sa Bhreatain, cruthaíodh Brainse Speisialta na Breataine, seirbhís rúnda na Breataine, leasú príosúin, leasú chóras na talún in Éirinn agus in Albain, scar sé an impireacht is cumhachtaí ar domhan, agus spreag sé réabhlóidithe iomadúla ar fud an domhain.

Tarraingíonn Cogadh Faoi Cheilt ar chuidiú ó shaineolaithe ar an IRB, Fíníneachas, Poblachtachas Éireannach, Réabhlóid na hÉireann, athbheochan na Gaeilge agus cultúr agus litríocht náisiúnach sa 19ú agus san 20ú haois.

Beidh Cogadh faoi Cheilt – Scéal an IRB ar siúl Dé Céadaoin, 25 Meán Fómhair ag 9.30i.n. ar TG4.
