New Writer Focus: In Conversation with Producers Farah Abushwesha and Ed King

Northern Ireland Screen has arranged an ‘In Conversation’ with producers Farah Abushwesha and Ed King to aid those applying to our New Writer Focus scheme.

Date: Friday 24th April

Time: 5pm – 5:40pm

Place: Zoom

This event will give writers an opportunity to find out what draws these producers to a project, how and when they engage with writers and what made them option NWF scripts.

Farah Abushwesha is a BAFTA nominated producer and Amazon best-selling author on Rocliffe Notes Screenwriting and Filmmaking Series. Her work includes THE SINGAPORE GRIP by Christopher Hampton (Atonement, Dangerous Liaisons) with Colm Meaney, Charles Dance and Jane Horrocks, BBC Amazon series THE ABC MURDERS starring John Malkovich and Rupert Grint with Mammoth Screen, Netflix Original IRREPLACEABLE YOU with Christopher Walken, Steve Coogan and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. THE LAST PHOTOGRAPH with Danny Huston and Sarita Choudry. She is also the founder of the BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Showcase and Competition.

Ed King is a film producer with a background in film development. He began his career as a producer’s assistant at Miramax Films before working as a script reader and editor for most of London’s major film financiers including Film4, Working Title, and Pathe Pictures. He spent eight years as Head of Development at Elton John’s Rocket Pictures, working on It’s a Boy Girl Thing, Gnomeo & Juliet, and Rocketman. His company Starchild Pictures has cofinanced The Liability starring Tim Roth and Jack O’Connell, produced the horror movie Howl starring Ed Speleers and Shauna Macdonald, and the Sundance 2020 selected horror, His House, directed by Remi Weekes and sold to Netflix. As a producer he is seeking genre led projects (primarily horror, sci-fi, thriller) with a social thematic or told from a unique, distinctive or underrepresented voice.
