Date Posted: March 3, 2020

Congratulations to Northern Ireland’s Chris Baugh and Brendan Mullin whose latest film Boys From County Hell will receive its world premiere in Official Selection in the Midnight section at the Tribeca Film Festival. The film is a co-production between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Established by Robert DeNiro, the Tribeca Film Festival takes place in New York from 15-26 April and is one of the most prominent and well-respected film festivals in the US.

Filmed entirely on location in Northern Ireland Boys From County Hell is a co-production between Six Mile Hill and Blinder Films. Written and directed by Chris Baugh from a story by Baugh and Brendan Mullin the dark comedy horror follows a crew of hardy road workers, led by a bickering Father and Son, who must survive the night when they accidentally awaken an ancient Irish vampire. Boys From County Hell stars Jack Rowan (Born to Kill), Nigel O’Neill (Bad Day for the Cut), Louisa Harland (Derry Girls), Michael Hough (My Name is Emily), John Lynch (The Secret Garden, Black Death, Best) and Fra Fee (Les Miserables, Animals).

The film boasts an impressive mix of Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland crew including DOP Ryan Kernaghan, Production Designer John Leslie, Editor Brian Philip Davis, Costume Designer Triona Lillis, First AD Craig Kenny, stunts by Brendan Condren and SFX from Bowsie Workshop and Millennium FX.

This is the second feature from Baugh and Mullin following their debut Bad Day for the Cut which was developed and produced via Northern Ireland Screen’s New Talent Focus scheme and received its world premiere at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. In 2012 the duo also made a short film Boys From County Hell which picked up Best Irish Short at the Kerry International Film Festival.

Commenting on the selection director Chris Baugh said; “We’ve been wanting to make this movie for a long time. When we finally got our chance we were lucky to have incredible people on both sides of the camera. The fact that we are premiering at the Tribeca film festival is a testament to their hard work and talent. We can’t wait to introduce New York audiences to the Boys From County Hell.”

Producer and co-writer Brendan Mullin added; “We would like to thank all of our amazingly talented cast and crew for being great collaborators in bringing Boys From County Hell to the screen. It’s a passion project for us and it’s incredibly exciting to have its world premiere at such a prestigious festival as Tribeca 2020,”

Richard Williams, Chief Executive of Northern Ireland Screen, said: “We were delighted to hear that Boys From County Hell has been selected for Tribeca Film Festival. We offer our huge congratulations to Chris, Brendan and their entire team. To have your first two features selected by festivals as prestigious as Sundance and Tribeca is no mean feat and is real testament to the world-class talent we have here in Northern Ireland. The Tribeca audience is in for a real treat.”

Produced by Brendan Mullin for Six Mile Hill and Yvonne Donohoe for Blinder Films. Executive producers are Katie Holly for Blinder Films, Brian Kavanagh Jones and Rian Cahill for Automatik in the US. Co-producer is Katy Jackson. The film was supported by Endeavor Content, Screen Ireland, Northern Ireland Screen, and Egg Post Production.
