Belfast Media Festival goes virtual for 2020 with exclusive Kenneth Branagh interview

Date Posted: October 21, 2020

Kenneth Branagh will return to Belfast virtually on Thursday 12th November to bring the creative industries together for a unique Belfast Media Festival (BMF) 2020.

Now in its 11th year this special ‘BMF in conversation with Kenneth Branagh’ will be available to festival supporters and those interested in a career in the creative industries via the BMF website from 12.30pm on Thursday 12th November 2020.

Kenneth Branagh, who recently finished filming his most personal film to date set in Belfast can next be seen in Agatha Christie’s Death On The Nile as the detective Hercule Poirot. He will talk to BMF about his career to date in film and television, both as an actor and director/producer.

Kenneth Branagh says: “I am delighted to be part of the Belfast Media Festival in these difficult times. With a workforce that is mainly freelance and productions and cinemas having to close it has often looked bleak for our industry. However, there is innovation and resilience, and I want to celebrate the achievements of the film and television industry here in Northern Ireland.”

BMF is grateful to the support of its partners BBC Northern Ireland and Northern Ireland Screen which ensures the event remains FREE for attendees.

Peter Johnston, Director, BBC Northern Ireland and Richard Williams, Chief Executive, Northern Ireland Screen, said: “Kenneth Branagh has been on our wish list since the first Belfast Media Festival took place in November 2009, but unfortunately until now we’ve been unable to align diaries to make it happen. We are thrilled Kenneth has agreed to join us to mark the 11th year of the festival with a special interview where he’ll talk about his recent experiences filming under Covid restrictions, providing much needed insight into how we can future proof our industry from further disruption as we continue to face the challenges of Covid.”

Helen Thompson, Producer, Belfast Media Festival says: “We like to try something different each year with the Festival, our mantra this year is Regenerate, Innovate and Captivate, so who better than Kenneth Branagh to help us do just that. We hope to return once more with our usual two-day festival in November 2021 to showcase the incredible talent within the creative industries in Northern Ireland, when hopefully it is safe once again to do so.”
