Cinemagic summer scheme calls film fans for young consultants’ programme

Date Posted: June 21, 2021

Cinemagic has launched its annual call for young film enthusiasts to take on the role of ‘film consultants’ this July in Belfast, to help programme a series of films for the annual Cinemagic Festival that takes place in October 2021. The Young Consultants’ Programme will take place in person in the Ulster Museum, Belfast, in line with government guidance on social distancing in relation to Covid-19. The participants in the young consultants’ scheme will work in groups of 8–11-year-olds, 12–14-year-olds and 15–18-year-olds with the Cinemagic team to help steer the choice of films for the festival, as they watch and critique films from around the globe!

If you know a budding film critic who would enjoy the opportunity to spend time with Cinemagic, this is a fantastic opportunity to meet other likeminded young people who love watching and discussing films and have fun deciding the content of the largest film festival for young people in the UK and Ireland.

Chris Shaw, Cinemagic Programmer said: “We are looking forward to welcoming back young people aged 8-18, to our annual young film consultants panel, which has been one of the longest running initiatives of the Cinemagic Festival since its inception 32 years ago. The young film consultants will have the opportunity to watch and review international films guided by the Cinemagic team and there will be lots of opportunities for discussion and debate.”

HOW TO REGISTER: Young people aged 8-11, 12-14 and 15-18 with a keen interest in film and the enthusiasm to discuss and debate within a group should register by completing a Young Consultants Registration Form and emailing it to [email protected]. On receipt of the form a ticket payment link will be shared along with more event details. The cost to participate is £10 per person (plus £1 online booking fee).

Young consultants will meet on the following dates in the Ulster Museum, Botanic Gardens, Belfast as per age category and participants must be available for both dates in their group. The young consultants programme is open to all young people from Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.

 8–11-year-olds: 15th and 16th July, 10.00am-3.00pm

12–14-year-olds: 20th and 21st July, 10.00am-3.00pm

15–18-year-olds: 22nd and 23rd July, 10.00am-3.00pm

This Cinemagic event takes place in the Lecture Theatre in the Ulster Museum. Ticket holders will enter the Lecture theatre through the double doors in the Stranmillis corridor and will exit at the top left of the lecture theatre back into the atrium to maintain the one-way system (unless unable to use stairs). Participants will be accompanied by Cinemagic staff on exit at 3pm. The Ulster Museum is taking part in Track, Trace and Protect. Please make sure to give a lead mobile number for your party to staff on the day, who will be pro-actively managing this. As a delivery partner of Cinemagic, The Ulster Museum will hold these details for 21 days in the event of a Covid alert in line with GDPR.
