The Day the Music Died tells the tragic story of the Miami Showband massacre. Driving home after a gig in Banbridge, Co-Down, in July 1975 the band was stopped at a fake road block. Within minutes, three of the band members were shot dead by the UVF gang that had stopped them. Two of the UVF men were also dead, blown up by the bomb they were planting on the band's bus. It was an incident which shocked Ireland and marked the end of the showband era.
Through interviews with surviving band members, The Day the Music Died marks the thirtieth anniversary of the Miami Showband massacre and assesses its impact on the entertainment scene in Northern Ireland.
DoubleBand Films' latest documentary for BBC ONE NI is to be shown this Monday, 10th October at 10.35 pm.
