Filmmakers from across Northern Ireland are coming together on Saturday 16 April to show their work in the Belfast Film Festival’s Jameson Short Film Competition, run in association with Kodak. The UK’s top film school will be there too. Paul Green, Talent Scout for the School, is excited at the prospect: “Events like this give us
a fantastic opportunity to discover exciting new talent at a crucial stage in their development. Not only is it a great showcase for their work, but it also gives me an opportunity to meet the filmmakers and tell them about the amazing opportunities the National Film and TelevisionSchool has to offer.
“And that’s not all. This is a chance to let them know about a new Scholarship, sponsored by the Northern Ireland Film and Television Commission, that will support a student from Northern Ireland to come to the School,” continued Paul. “New talent is the lifeblood of the Industry; the students we find today may well be the BAFTA and Oscar winners of the future.”
The NFTS runs a variety of MA and Diploma courses covering all aspects of film and
television programme making, from directing to editing to producing to post-production to creating visual and special effects. Students work to an Industry model in purpose-built studios, with post-production facilities rivalling those of many professional companies, and are taught by the very best practitioners in their fields, including the likes of Brian Tufano, Director of Photography on Trainspotting and Billy Elliot, acclaimed director Stephen Frears (Dirty Pretty Things, High Fidelity) and former BBC Entertainment and Comedy chief, Mike Bolland, now Director of Television at the School.
