John O’Connor Writing School and Literary Arts Festival

Date Posted: October 5, 2017

There are a number of fantastic events on offer at the upcoming John O’Connor Writing School and Literary Arts Festival. This is the second year of the festival, which celebrates writing, poetry and film-making.

The Lights, Camera, Action panel discussion, which takes place on Saturday 4th November, features Northern Ireland Screen’s Development Executive, Ursula Devine. The panel session offers a Q&A with award-winning screenwriters and directors in conversation with Daragh Carville. The panel takes place at The Charlemont Arms Hotel, 57-65 Upper English Street from 1pm -2pm. Following the success of Game of Thrones and other TV dramas made in Northern Ireland (The Fall, Line of Duty), the region is fast becoming a sought-after centre for film and drama production. The panellists will discuss the exciting possibilities and challenges for artists working in this fast-developing field in Northern Ireland. Other panellists include Barry Devlin (IFTA nominee), Ronan Blaney (BAFTA, Oscar nominee) and casting director/producer Jude Sharvin.

What’s The Story? A Guide To Screenwriting with Deirdre Cartmill features a three-day workshop at AmmA Centre, Market Street in Armagh. The sessions, which begin on Friday 3rd November, are hosted by award winning screenwriter and ex-BBC script editor Deirdre Cartmill with a focus on creating characters and how to focus on the real story. Further details on the workshop can be found here:
