BBC Arts & Northern Ireland Screen Two Minute Masterpiece is now open for applications

Date Posted: May 4, 2020

Two Minute Masterpiece, in partnership with BBC Arts and Northern Ireland Screen, will give up to six emerging animators based in Northern Ireland the opportunity to create their own amazing two minute film. These commissioned films will be shared on various BBC platforms, with some potentially being screened on BBC Four.

Due to the current lockdown situation this is the perfect time to showcase Northern Ireland’s animation talent. For this fifth series of films ideas are open to both male and female animators aged 16+ and are again, committed to giving a voice to those normally underrepresented in the industry.

This time ideas should be focused around the theme of ‘Connection’. All types of animation will be accepted, whichever best suits your storytelling, style and talent.

The chosen filmmakers will be given an industry mentor and a production fund of £2000 towards realising their cinematic vision. These original stories and perspectives will give the audience an insight into the creative minds of local filmmaking talent.

In the last round, the scheme asked for ideas around the theme of identity. The six commissioned films Cycle, From His Perspective, Ode, Please Introduce Yourself, Son and The Presence of Absence showcased the wonderful diverse range of talent and stories that Northern Ireland’s filmmakers wanted to tell. Transitioning, community, death and loss were just some of the varied subjects and issues explored in these films.

To get involved send an email to [email protected] with your idea (500 words max), storyboard and if applicable CV and show reel.

The closing date for receipt of entries is Friday 22nd May 2020.

Shortlisted candidates will have an online pitching/mentorship session in the week beginning Monday 25th May 2020.

The candidiates will then be invited to pitch digitally to the BBC Art’s commissioning panel on Friday 29th May 2020.

Up to six filmmakers will be paired with an industry mentor and each awarded a small production fund (£2000) to make their film.

The films must be delivered to us by Friday 17th July 2020.
