Rónán ar an Camino Thursdays at 10pm on TG4

Rónán ar an Camino follows radio presenter Rónán Mac Aodha Bhuí as he walks the Camino de Santiago, an ancient religious pilgrimage in Northern Spain. This new four-part Irish Language Broadcast Fund series begins Thursday, 21st February, at 10pm on TG4.

The Camino de Santiago is a famous pilgrimage to the Cathedral in Santiago de Compostela in Galicia. The pilgrimage has seen a revival of interest in recent times with movies such as The Way, a film about an American doctor, played by Martin Sheen, who completes the route in memory of his son, killed while walking the Camino.

Rónán goes on a personal journey to find out what is the attraction of the Camino; is it religious, spiritual or personal reasons that draws thousands of people to the Camino every year?

Rónán meets an eclectic mix of colourful characters each with their own story to tell, all searching for a deeper meaning in their life. Christiano has walked 2000 miles, Wanda’s loneliness drove her from Canada to walk the Camino, Joe from Japan is walking the Camino with his two young sons after giving up his job to spend more time with his family, Deirdre from Lithuania wants God to show her what path to take in her life, the Gilligans from Ireland are celebrating 30 years of marriage and are walking the Camino with their children to celebrate.

Throughout his walk Rónán explores his own personal quest for happiness making this a challenging journey, both emotionally and physically, marked by laughter, tears, new friends and lots of blisters!

Rónán also stops off in Pamplona where he gets to sample some Basque music and culture.

This series has been produced by Waddell Media for TG4 with finance from Northern Ireland Screen’s Irish Language Broadcast Fund.

Rónán ar an Camino, gach Déardaoin ar 10 i.n. ar TG4

Leanann Rónán ar an Camino an láithreoir raidió Rónán Mac Aodha Bhuí agus é ar shiúl na gcos ar an Camino de Santiago, an oilithreacht ársa i dtuaisceart na Spáinne. Tosóidh an tsraith cheithre chlár seo, de chuid an Chiste Craoltóireachta Gaeilge, ar an Déardaoin 21ú Feabhra, ar 10 i.n. ar TG4.

Oilithreacht cháiliúil go dtí Ardeaglais Santiago de Compostela sa Ghailís is ea an Camino de Santiago. Tháinig borradh mór faoin oilithreacht le blianta beaga anuas agus tarraingíodh an-aird air de bharr an scannáin The Way inar ghlac an t-aisteoir iomráiteach, Martin Sheen páirt dochtúra as Meiriceá a shiúlann an bealach ar fad i gcuimhne a mhic a maraíodh ar an Camino.

Téann Rónán ar thuras pearsanta agus é ag déanamh fiosraithe ar dhraíocht na hoilithreachta; An iad cúiseanna a bhaineann leis an chreideamh, leis an spioradáltacht nó an cúiseanna pearsanta iad a mheallann na mílte duine chun tabhairt faoin Camino gach bliain?

Castar pearsana ilghnéitheacha, iltréitheacha ar Rónán agus tá a scéal féin ag gach duine acu agus iad uilig sa tóir ar dhomhain-bhrí a saolta. Ina measc tá Cristiano a shiúil dhá mhíle míle go dtí seo; tháinig Wanda ó Cheanada le teann uaignis le haghaidh a thabhairt ar an Camino: d’éirigh Joe ón tSeapáin as a phost le níos mó ama a chaitheamh lena chlann - tá sé ag siúl an bhealaigh lena bheirt mhac; tá Deirdre ón Liotuáin ag iarraidh treoir ó Dhia faoi chúrsa a saoil agus is iad muintir Uí Ghiollagáin, na hÉireannaigh ina measc, atá ag ceiliúradh tríocha bliain de phósadh agus iad ag siúl an Camino lena bpáistí.

I gcaitheamh na siúlóide scrúdaíonn Rónán an tóir atá aige féin ar shonas pearsanta agus is léir gur aistear dúshlánach é don anam agus don chorp dá bharr; tá gol agus gáire ann, cairde nua agus flúirse spuaiceanna!

Stopann Rónán i Pamplona fosta, áit a bhfaigheann sé blas de chultúr agus ceol na mBascach.

Tá an tsraith seo léirithe ag Waddell Media do TG4 le cuidiú ón Chiste Craoltóireachta Gaeilge, Scáileán Thuaisceart Éireann.
