360Production launches YouTube channel Head Squeeze

Inspired by the popularity and success of BBC Two’s returning television series, James May’s Things You Need to Know, 360Production has teamed up with BBC Worldwide to bring an innovative new channel to YouTube called Head Squeeze, starring James May.

At Head Squeeze James May, and his crack team of scientists, mathematicians, comedians and a… badger, provide left-field insights, sideways interpretations and bizarre, entertaining facts about whatever is in the news, trending on twitter, or being discussed at the water cooler. Head Squeeze is packed full of science, technology, history and current affairs. It’s for anyone who wants to find out more about the events and stories unfolding around them but presented in a way that they just wouldn't get through the normal news and media sources.

Simon Danker, BBC Worldwide Commercial Director, Content and Production said: “Head Squeeze gives us the opportunity to tap in to what is trending in the world of science and technology and satisfy fans’ curiosity for smart content they can talk about and share. It is a pleasure to be working alongside 360Production who bring with them a wealth of expertise in creating high quality factual content for TV and digital."

This month 360Production is launching its new channel on YouTube as part of the platform’s new original channels initiative announced in October last year. One of more than thirty new original channels across UK, France and Germany, 360Production is at the forefront of producers leading the way in digital content.

The channel will publish a new video every day of the week for a year and since its soft launch at the end of December 2012 it has accumulated 167,015 views and 8,019 subscribers already. You can find the channel at www.youtube.com/headsqueeze

There are seven strands on the channel presented by an outstanding cast of science communicators, experts in scientific research, established mathematicians, bona fide technology lovers, and popular comedians. They’re a mix of experienced TV presenters making their debut on a digital platform and those already with an online following.

Our contributors include; resident inventor at the Science Museum, Mark Champkins, the UK’s number one stand-up mathematician Matt Parker, science interpreter Fran Scott, daredevil presenter Greg Foot, celebrity radio broadcaster Dominic Byrne and up and coming comedian Andrew Maxwell.

Head Squeeze received funding from the Northern Ireland Screen fund supported by Invest NI and part funded by the European Regional Development Fund
