ILBF announces its latest funding decisions and 2013 funding deadlines

Following the recent meeting of the Investment Committee of the ILBF, The Irish Language Broadcast Fund is pleased to announce its latest funding decisions. Awards were made across of a wide genre of programming, including documentaries, factual entertainment, re-versioned animation and new media applications.

In the documentary category Derry based Dearcán Media has been awarded funding for Na Sufraigéidí (TG4) which will examine how Irish women fought for and got their voting rights. Bóthar Ard Teo received funding for a three part series for the Cogar slot for TG4, which will look at three well known Belfast personalities and how their deeds have impacted on their local communities.

Waddell Media Ltd received funding for a documentary entitled Deirfiúr le Dia (TG4) which will follow a young carer as she prepares for her A Levels. Doubleband was successful in their submission for a four part series tracing the treasures of ancient Ulster (BBC2 NI) . Big Mountain was also awarded funding for a four part series entitled The Lost Village (RTÉ) which will look at the stories of four families who were evicted from their homes in Carrowmenagh.

Below the Radar was also successful in their application to produce a half hour documentary entitled Dlí Rory (TG4), which will look at the story of Rory Staunton and how his family are challenging the health system in America. Imagine Media received funding for a four part series entitled Marcaíocht (TG4) which will follow the fortunes of a Donegal horse riding club over a year. Tobar Productions was awarded funding for two documentaries, one which will look at the impact Brian Friel’s play Translations had on both the actors that partook in it when it was first shown and also the impact it had on Derry as a city; (BBC2 NI), and the second which is entitled Caillte sa Chogadh (TG4) which will trace the story of a local WWI soldier.

Funding was also awarded to 360 Production for an Irish language version of the successful Things You Need To Know (BBC2 NI) series which explores and answers many of the common questions of science, history and current affairs.

Development funding was awarded to Imagine Media to develop a documentary, Wolftone (TG4) and Stirling Productions was also awarded development funding for a second series of Scúp (TG4 / BBC).

Raidió Fáilte was successful in their application for funding to continue with their broadcast training scheme which provides an excellent basis for moving into other areas of production.

Indee Productions received funding to develop an App to compliment their children’s cookery series Bia Linn (TG4).

Funding deadlines for 2013 are as follows:

  • 12 noon on Friday 1st March
  • 12 noon on Friday 31st May
  • 12 noon on Friday 27th September

The ILBF has an annual fund of £3m, provided by the UK’s Department of Culture, Media & Sport via the British Film Institute. Funding is made available to production companies based in Northern Ireland. It expects to deliver not less than 70 hours of Irish language output per annum which is broadcast on TG4, BBC NI and RTÉ. Its remit also includes funding for multiplatform and educational material as well as the provision of training opportunities to Irish speakers working in the production sector.

Tugadh maoiniú do réimse leathan chláir, le cláir fhaisnéise, cláir shiamsaíochta, beochan dubáilte agus iarratais na meán úr curtha san áireamh.

Faoi chatagóir na gclár faisnéise, d’éirigh le Dearcán Media, atá lonnaithe i nDoire, maoiniú a fháil do chlár dar teideal Na Sufraigéidí (TG4) a n-amharcfaidh ar mhná na hÉireann agus ar an troid a bhí acu cearta vótála a fháil. Tugadh maoiniú do Bhóthar Ard Teo le trí chlár a dhéanamh don sliotán Cogar ar TG4. Díreoidh gach clár isteach ar Fheirsteach difriúil ar leith agus ar an tionchar a bhí aige ar an phobal áitiúil trí na gníomhartha a rinne sé.

D’éirigh le Waddell Media Ltd maoiniú a fháil le haghaidh clár faisnéise dar teideal Deirfiúr le Dia (TG4) ina leanfar cúramóir óg agus í ag ullmhú don bhliain staidéir agus do na hArd Leibhéil atá roimpi. D’éirigh le Doubleband an babhta seo fosta agus iarratas curtha isteach ag an chomhlacht le haghaidh sraith theilifíse cheithre chlár. Rachfar ar thóir déantán ársa Uladh sna cláir (BBC2 TÉ) . Tugadh maoiniú do Big Mountain le sraith cheithre choda a dhéanamh do RTÉ. Amharcfaidh The Lost Village (RTÉ) ar na scéalta a bhaineann le ceithre chlann a ndearnadh díshealbhú orthu sa Cheathrú Meánach, i dTír Chonaill.

Beidh Below the Radar maoinithe le clár faisnéise leathuair a chloig darbh ainm Dlí Rory (TG4) a léiriú. Inseofar scéal Rory Staunton agus cloisfear faoin dóigh go mbeidh teaghlach Rory ag seasamh in aghaidh córas sláinte Mheiriceá. Fuair Imagine Media airgead le sraith cheithre choda dar teideal Marcaíocht (TG4) a léiriú ina leanfar cumann marcaíochta i dTír Chonaill thar bhliain. Tugadh maoiniú fosta do Tobar Productions le dhá chlár faisnéise a léiriú. Amharcfaidh ceann ar an tionchar a bhí ag an dráma Translations de chuid Brian Friel, ar na haisteoirí a ghlac páirt ann agus ar chathair Dhoire (BBC2 TÉ). Caillte sa Chogadh (TG4) an dara chlár faisnéise a léireoidh Tobar Productions agus leanfar scéal saighdiúra áitiúil a ghlac páirt sa Chéad Chogadh Domhanda sa chlár seo.

D’éirigh le 360 Production maoiniú a fháil le leagan Gaeilge a dhéanamh den tsraith Things You Need To Know (BBC2 TÉ) a fhiosraíonn agus a fhreagraíonn cuid mhór de na ceisteanna coitianta a chuirtear faoin eolaíocht, faoin stair agus faoi chúrsaí reatha.

Tugadh maoiniú forbartha do Imagine Media le clár ar Wolftone (TG4). Maoiníodh Stirling Productions fosta leis an dara shraith de Scúp (TG4 / BBC) a fhorbairt.

D’éirigh le s Raidió Fáilte maoiniú a fháil dá scéim traenála craoltóireachta, rud a thugann bunús iontach dóibh siúd atá ag iarraidh bheith ag obair in earnáil na meán agus taithí éagsúil léiriúcháin a aimsiú.

Fuair Indee Productions maoiniú le hAip a dhéanamh, rud a oibreoidh in éineacht leis an tsraith chócaireachta do pháistí Bia Linn (TG4) atá léirithe ag an chomhlacht cheana féin.

Is é an sainchúram atá ann gan níos lú ná 70 uair de theilifís trí Ghaeilge a mhaoiniú in aghaidh na bliana agus go gcraolfar an t-aschur seo ar TG4, ar BBC TÉ agus ar RTÉ. Tá sé mar chuid den sainchúram atá ag an CCG go gcuirfear maoiniú ar fáil le tacaíocht a thabhairt d’ábhair a thrasnóidh go hardáin eile agus d’ábhair oideachasúla.
