RTS relaunches in Northern Ireland

The Royal Television Society (RTS), the UK’s leading forum within the creative industries, is relaunching the Northern Ireland Centre with a series of events designed to educate and inspire debate.

RTS NI, a participating sponsor at the Belfast Media Festival, will be holding a career guidance event at the Festival on Friday 19 October. This ‘speed-dating’ type event will provide students an invaluable opportunity to meet and discuss career development with experts from across the creative industries. Following the Belfast Media Festival, a number of Legacy events will be announced in partnership with Creative Skillset and UTV.

On Tuesday 6 November, RTS NI will be hosting an event entitled, ‘Local TV in Belfast: Meet the Bidders’. This event will give the two bidders for the local TV licence in Belfast an opportunity to present their plans to interested members of the public and the wider media industry on their vision for local TV in Belfast.

In early 2013, RTS NI will invite members and guests to visit the broadcast facilities of the Northern Ireland Assembly at Stormont. In April, the needs of the next generation of TV professionals will be explored at an RTS Futures session entitled, ‘Getting a Job in Production’.

RTS NI Centre Chair, Michael Wilson, said: “As the recently appointed Chair, I hope that we can rejuvenate RTS NI into a vibrant society by bringing together the creative industries in Northern Ireland – not exclusive to broadcasting – to explore and debate the issues currently facing our industry while also inspiring the next generation.

“As part of the relaunch, the RTS NI Centre has created a variety of events to take place over the next year, but we would also welcome any suggestions from the industry on what events, workshops or debates would benefit the wider creative industry going forward.”
