Foyle Film Festival extends competition deadline
Due to an unprecedented volume of submissions for the 2012 Light in Motion Awards, Foyle Film Festival will extend the deadline for competition to Friday 12 October 2012.
Award winners will be announced at the 25th International Foyle Film Festival, which will take place from 21-25 November 2012. Foyle Film Festival is funded by Northern Ireland Screen and Derry City Council. The festival celebrates 25 successful years as Northern Ireland's leading film festival with Oscar®, BAFTA and BIFA affiliations in November this year.
Recipients of the LIM Award qualify for consideration in the Short Films Category of the Annual Academy Awards® without the standard theatrical run, provided the film otherwise complies with the Academy rules.
The three Competition Categories under LIM are:
- Best International Short
- Best Animation
- Best Documentary
All films submitted must be completed after 1 January 2011.
Competitions Manager Eavan King said: “We’re delighted that there’s such a strong level of interest in the festival and we are receiving submissions from every corner of the world and the standard is very high this year. Foyle Film Festival is an Oscar affiliated festival, so it provides a very special platform for filmmakers and artists to have their work shown and shortlisted for the Annual Academy Awards®. We’re encouraging people to support their local film industry by coming out and supporting cinema events at the Nerve Centre so they can see the great work that is on offer from local and international filmmakers right here on their own doorstep."
All entries for the 2012 Festival must be submitted through affiliated website: www.withoutabox.com Final date for submission is Friday 12th October at 5pm. Please note that this is an in-hand deadline - all DVDs must reach the festival office by last day of deadline in order to be considered. Cost of submission is £35 for WAB members.
