Masterclasses at Galway Film Fleadh
Bill Daly to deliver a post production Masterclass
The 24th Galway Film Fleadh, in association with Screen Scene, are delighted to announce Bill Daly will be hosting a Masterclass in post production.
Bill Daly served at Warner Bros. for 25 years overseeing hundreds of theatrical motion pictures including all of the Harry Potter films, Space Jam, Lethal Weapon 3 and 4, The Matrix trilogy, Batman and Robin, Batman Begins, Troy, The Corpse Bride, Steven Spielberg’s AI, Ocean’s 11, The Perfect Storm, Superman Returns, The Departed, Happy Feet, 300 and The Dark Knight. Bill moved to Post Production as its Director in 1997; became its Vice President in 2003 and Senior Vice President in 2006. Bill departed Warner Bros. Pictures in December 2011 upon the completion of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and The Lucky One.
The Masterclass will cover a range of topics including:
- The challenges facing Post Production today
- Budget and schedule pressures being placed upon film-makers
- How the move from film to digital has changed the landscape
- What 3-D has done to change Post Production
- How the proposed increase in frame rate has come about and how these changes can affect the future of storytelling
The masterclass will be chaired by Jim Duggan, managing director of Screen Scene and will be followed by a Q&A session.

Ventura Pons to host Directors Masterclass
The 24th Galway Film Fleadh, in association with Fás Screen Training Ireland, are delighted to announce that award winning director Ventura Pons will be hosting this year’s Directors Masterclass.
Ventura Pons burst into the international film scene with the documentary Ocaña, an Intermittent Portrait, which was officially selected by the 1978 Cannes Film Festival. However it wasn’t until Caricies (1997) was selected by the Berlin International Film Festival for its Panorama section that the world finally paid attention to his uncompromising work. In fact, he is the only director whose films have been invited five consecutive times to Berlin, the other four being Amic/amat (1998), Morir (o no) (1999), Anita Takes a Chance (2000) and Food of Love (2001, his only English-language film). and since then has cemented a reputation as one of the leading directors in world cinema and with twenty two feature films (twenty produced by his own company Els Films de la Rambla, S.A., founded in 1985), he continues to operate on the vanguard of Spanish Cinema.
His films are continuously programmed in International Festivals, with a main interest from the Berlinale, and distributed in a lot of countries around the world. He has been the subject of homages by the Bogota, Thessaloniki, Belgrade, Dijon and Luxembourg Film Festivals. The ICA (Institute of Contemporary Arts) in London, the Lincoln Center in New York, the Buenos Aires, Warsaw, Valdivia and the Istanbul Film Festival, the Tel-Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa Cinematheques in Israel and the American Cinematheque in Los Angeles have presented retrospectives of his films. He has been Vice-President of the Spanish Film Academy and has been elected to the Board of the Spanish Society of Authors. He has also been awarded with the National Film Award from the Catalan Government, the prestigious Ondas Award, the City of Huesca Award and the Spain Fine Arts Gold Medal and the Catalan Sant Jordi Cross.
Pons’ follow up to last year’s 1000 Fools (which screened at the Fleadh in 2011) Year of Grace/Any de Gràcia, takes place in Barcelona’s Gracia neighborhood where David, who has left his native small town in search of a new life in Barcelona, meets Gràcia, a bitter old woman in her late sixties, who offers him free room in exchange for his companionship. They soon realize they have more in common than meets the eye and has been described by critic Alex Gorina as a “dynamic, comforting, optimistic and constructive comedy."
The Masterclass will take place on: Wednesday the 11th of July in the Radisson Hotel, Galway and will be facilitated by Kieron J. Walsh.
