Northern Ireland productions among nominees for Celtic Media Awards

Productions from Northern Ireland feature in The Celtic Media Festival’s shortlist of nominees for this year’s Awards which will take place in Derry~Londonderry from 18-20 April.

Amongst the nineteen strongly contested categories are two Irish Language Broadcast Fund (ILBF) productions; Clean Slate Television’s The Bothy Boy and Tobar Productions’ Tubaiste Árainn Mhór.

The Bothy Boy details the life and musical career of Mícheál Ó Domhnaill, a guitarist, singer, composer, arranger, producer and member of the most influential traditional Irish group of all time, The Bothy Band. The Bothy Boy has been nominated in the Arts category.

Tubaiste Árainn Mhór documents the Arranmore disaster that claimed the lives of 19 islanders when a boat carrying those returning from the tattyhoking season in Scotland hit rocks a few hundred yards from the shore. Tubaiste Árainn Mhór will battle it out in the Single Factual category. BBC Northern Ireland’s Wonderland, The Men Who Won’t Stop Marching has also been shortlisted in this category.

Zoogon’s Frank O’Farrell The Shadow of Busby received a nod in the Sport category. Two Northern Ireland projects; Buntús Cainte and The Seige have been shortlisted for the Kieran Hegarty Award for Interactivity. Radió Failte Teoranta’s Ar Thóir an Óir has made the shortlist for the Radio Documentary award.

The three day celebration of digital media, broadcasting and film talent will be held in The Playhouse Theatre and will showcase some of the best work from Northern Ireland, The Republic of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, the Isle of Man and Brittany.
